My darling child, I posted this on FB last night. Not forgotten. Yesterday one of Levi's friends gave me a beautiful gift. She sent me a photo of the title page to her recently completed master's thesis and of the dedication page that read simply "Dedicated to Leona Viola "Levi" Prisock 1995 - 2016". I know that Levi will be in her memory for a long time as she will also be carried in the hearts of all her friends. So many times these young people have shared their memories with me of the one young woman I love more than anyone else on this planet. This is the one fear that seems to be held in common by every parent like me - the fear that one day no one will remember. We even fear the time when dementia or Alzheimer's takes hold and erases our children from our memory. I experienced that with my own mother and know full well it can happen. I suppose it shouldn't matter since I will be completely unaware that it has happened. Until then I say her name just to hear someone say it, I sometimes talk to her. She seldom answers. Many of you somehow endured all those years that I bored you in person and later here on Facebook with Levi's many accomplishments. Like I wrote in her obituary "You left behind trophies, medals, certificates, a piano that you said hums to itself when you enter in dead silence, people with shattered hearts, Mina the cat who mourns outside your bedroom door, and me, your favorite Mom." She left behind all those things, her works, her art and music, but she left behind one other thing for me to enjoy. Her friends. Yesterday I received an unexpected friend request from one of her friends. Today I received another request from yet another of her friends. It gives me hope that even when my memory fails me, her memory will continue to have a place to live. And somewhere in the archives of master's theses at Harvard, is the name of someone admired and loved by a friend. (and just be quiet, Maggie! I can make a big deal out of this if I want to! :-) I'm forever, Levi's Mom.)
