Obituary for Carl Edward Ivey

Carl Edward Ivey of Starkville, formerly Dukedom, KY, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023 at the age of 98.

Carl was born July 30, 1925, in Vossburg, MS to father Carl D. Ivey and mother Birdie Merrill Ivey. He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the Philippines and the Pacific during World War II. He joined the Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and worked his way up to District Manager of the Southern MS area until retiring from South Central Bell in Picayune after more than 40 years. He was active in the community, his church and the Rotary Club, being named Citizen of the Year for Picayune before he retired. He loved people and would engage everyone in conversations – especially about religion and politics. He could fix anything and grow anything, spending hours in his workshops, green houses and gardens.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, the late Eula Mae Ivey of Picayune.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Nina Easterling Ivey of Starkville, MS, formerly of Dukedom, KY; children Carl Ivey, Jr. (Paula – deceased) of Starkville; Debra Jo Ivey Walker (Don) of Chunky, MS; Lea Ivey Stone (Matt) of Pass Christian, MS; David Ivey (Tara) of Covington, LA; Lori Easterling of Madison, MS; and John Mark Ivey (Stacey) of Bowling Green, KY; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl’s life will be celebrated with graveside services at New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune on Thursday, December 28, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the Cross of Christ for Starkville, P.O. Box 2123, Starkville, MS 39760.
