Obituary for Paula Jeanne Ivey

Paula Jeanne Ivey
We celebrate Paula Jeanne Ivey’s transition to heaven on May 3, 2023. Born in Bolton, Tennessee to Paul and Evelyn Miller, Paula grew up with her surviving sisters, Debbie Miller (Nashville, TN) and Joyce Miller (Bolton, TN) surrounded by a close extended family of farmers and telephone company men.

She graduated from Mississippi University for Women with a degree in Math and English where as a D’Belle social club member, she met and married Carl Ivey, Jr, the love of her life and best friend. Paula was an unrelenting advocate for children and education, working at the Head Start program in Memphis and teaching 7th grade math in Meridian publics schools. Her passion for children’s education eventually led her to be the Mississippi state PTA president. With her children, Paula was a founding member of the Starkville Suzuki Strings program and listened to squeaky violins become music for over 10 years. In 1979, Paula and Carl moved back to their college town of Starkville and founded Village Cycle Center. Paula was office manager, creative marketing manager, finance manager, notary and many other roles for their business for 43 years and worked side-by-side with her husband every day. Paula and Carl were married for 53 years and enjoyed motorcycle racing with friends all over Mississippi and Alabama.

Paula was the proud mother of Lara (Ivey) Kauchak of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Zach Ivey of Birmingham, Alabama. Her grandchildren Adelaide and Sabrina Kauchak and Anderson, Julia and Emma Ivey provided great joy and pictures of them occupy every surface of her home. Paula traveled the world visiting her daughter in Singapore and Canada and watching her son race motorcycles in Portugal. Her Christmas tree is adorned with ornaments from around the world.

Paula was a strong Christian and was a member of the First Presbyterian church where she was active in the choir, children’s programs and providing meals for those in need.

Visitation will be at 2pm on Sunday, May 7th, in Starkville, MS at First Presbyterian Church, followed by the funeral and celebration of life at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be sent to the Starkville Cross for Christ which Paula strongly supported and was proud to see it rise as a beacon of hope for all. (https://starkvillecross.thegivingsystem.com).
