Obituary for Charles P. "Charlie" Thrasher

Charles P. "Charlie" Thrasher
Mr. Charles P. "Charlie" Thrasher, age 93 of Starkville, MS, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 3, 2022. He was born on September 7, 1928 to the late Newton Carroll and Bessie Estelle Thrasher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 75 years, Roumalette Thrasher; sisters, Frances Henderson, Nancy Bell, Lucille Johnston, Jeanette Bell, and Jean Hall; and brothers, Willard, George, and Everett Thrasher.

Charlie was a veteran in the U.S. Army and he retired in 1991 as maintenance supervisor for the Starkville Public School District. He was a member of Bradley Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He loved his church and all friends and family knew that he loved the Lord. Charlie was director of t-ball, worked with little league baseball and girls softball. He was known as "Uncle Charlie" all through his years of officiating football, umpiring baseball, and driving the bus for the Starkville High School basketball team. After 41 years, Charlie retired from his position as head of the Mississippi State Scott Field Chain Crew in November of 2014.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Thrasher; and sister, Margaret Wade, both of Starkville, MS; and so many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 8, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Mike Sanders will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park in Starkville.

The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice, who Charlie loved for the gentleness and kindness shown to him during his illness.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 443 Smith Road, Sturgis, MS 39769.
