Obituary for Jimmie Marie Dikeman Brown

Jimmie Marie Dikeman Brown
Jimmie Marie Dikeman Brown went home to her Heavenly Father on January 27, 2022. Jimmie was born on April 18, 1927 in Oologah, Oklahoma to Benjamin H. Dikeman and Emily Whisenhunt Dikeman. Jimmie grew up on a ranch with many siblings. She and her sister Dorris were quite the high school basketball athletes. The petite sisters, nicknamed the Gold Dust Twins, were standout athletes on their team. The sisters helped earn the Mustangs first runner-up in the State Championship. Jimmie's love for sports continued throughout her life, and she regularly watched Mississippi State football, basketball & baseball games.

Jimmie earned her associate's degree from Draughon's Business College in Tulso, OK and began working for American Airlines in Los Angeles as a flight attendant. Jimmie enjoyed her worldly travels. One weekend that she and her roommates were at home she met her forever love, Joseph Brown. Joe and his roommates lived a block down the street from Jimmie. The young men had observed the women and introduced themselves. On January 19, 2022 Jimmie and Joe celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
In August of 1970, Joe and Jimmie and their 4 children moved to Starkville where Joe began teaching at Mississippi State University. Jimmie soon opened Book Mart downtown and managed it until her retirement. She had a love of reading as well as visiting with her customers. Jimmie most of all loved being with her husband and family.

Jimmie is survived by her husband, Joseph M. Brown of Starkville, MS; son, Paul A Brown (Kathy) of Starkville, MS; daughters, Stephanie A. Baker of Greenville, MS, Barbara L. Foster (Jeff) of Starkville, MS, and Carolyn J Abadie (Ben) of Starkville, MS; grandchildren, Rob Baker (Katie) of Greenville, MS, Caroline L. Smith (Hal) of Madison, MS, Joey Brown (Jackie) of Nashville, TN, Taylor M. Gough (Adam) of Nashville, TN, Anna Marie Nickels (Drew) of Pheba, MS, Doris L. Barksdale (Brett) of Starkville, MS, John D. Foster (Emily) of Starkville, MS; and three great granddaughters, Sarah Hollis Smith of Madison, MS, Blakely Kate Gough of Nashville, TN, and Natalie Ruth Foster of Starkville, MS. Jimmie is also survived by one sibling, Robert (Bob) Myskey (Tary) of Nice, CA; one brother-in-law, John W. Riddle (Dorris); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Darrell Philip (Tom) Dikeman of Oologah, OK, Margie (Pake) Dikeman-Brown of Houston, TX, Dorris Dikeman Riddle (Bid) of Starkville, MS, Cora Lee (Sally) Dikeman-Pilipovich of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Darlene Dikeman Van Pelt of Talala, OK.

The family wishes to thank Dr. George Walker and Daphne Bock, Kindred Nurse Mitzi Swindle and assistant Rose Glenn, Physical Therapist Will Martin, and Dr. Jim and Katy Anastasi. Also thank you to Dr. Everett McKibben and McKenzie of the Laird Clinic of Family Medicine.

Due to the Pandemic, the family will have a private service at First Presbyterian Church in Starkville with Rev. Dr. Martin Lifer officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Talala, OK.
