Irma Doyne (Walls) Creech (80) of Starkville, Mississippi, died on Friday, September 8, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi, following heart surgery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 13, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Welch Funeral Home, 201 West Lampkin St., Starkville, Mississippi. A celebration of life will be held onThursday, September 14, at 10:00 AM, at the Starkville church of Christ, 613 East Lee Blvd.,followed by interment at Oktibbeha Memorial Garden Park, 1608 Oktoc Rd., Starkville. The minister will be John T. Smithson, III, a long-time family friend.
Born July 11, 1937, Mrs. Creech was a native of Paris, Illinois. She was a 1954 graduate of Paris High School. She married her husband, Roy Glynn Creech, on August 24, 1957, and the Creeches celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her passing.
Mrs. Creech lived in Lafayette, Indiana, from 1957-60; State College, Pennsylvania, from 1960-72, and made her final move, to Starkville in 1972.
Mrs. Creech was faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Since 1972, she was a member of the Starkville Church of Christ and worked as the church’s part-time office secretary for 25 years until she retired in 2004. She also served the Starkville church as a fifth and sixth gradeSunday school teacher for many years.
She was a loving grandmother, mother, and wife, and she will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and her church family.
Mrs. Creech is survived by her husband, Dr. Roy Glynn Creech; and their children, Valinda Creech Smith (Ed) of Grenada, Mississippi; Colonel (retired) John B. Creech (Monica) of Homestead, Florida; Glynn E. Creech (Pat) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and their families; as well as one brother, Hubert Walls (Janet) of Flower Mound, Texas; and numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends and their spouses. The Creeches have nine grandchildren: Sarah Smith Case (Zac) and Emily Doyne Smith of Grenada, Mississippi; Samantha Creech Smyser (Aaron) of Starkville and Michael Creech (Gina) of Raeford, North Carolina; Garrett and Morgan Creech of Geneva, Alabama; Brandon, Nathan, and Michaela Creech of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and five great-grandchildren: Eason Smyser; Gabriel, Gideon, and Evelyn Case; and Cora Creech. Mrs. Creech was preceded in death by her parents Roscoe and Stella Clark Walls of Vermilion County, Illinois, and a brother, Richard Walls (Jean) of Whitesboro, New York.
