Condolence From: Roger Clifford Clapp
Condolence: As the second son of the first Dean of the Mississippi State School of Forest Resources, on behalf of the Clapp family I would like to add to the condolences and express my regret that none of our family can attend the services. My father was immensely proud to have hired Beau Thompson as Director of the Forest Products Lab, and his appreciation, and that of so many others, of Dr. Thompson grew to lasting love and admiration. In about 1983, surely at the suggestion of Warren and other loyal foresters like Rodney Foil, Jim Moak, George Switzer, and other close friends of Dad and Beau whom I wish I could recall at this time, the lab was named for R. T. Clapp in a ceremony I shall never forget. Dad gave a belabored but beautiful speech (after days of uncharacteristic nervousness attributable to early Alzheimer's) thanking Dr. Thompson and their many friends for the progress of the school, for which Dad took no credit as I recall. Thanks be to God for Warren Thompson, such a gentle and capable soul and major contributor to MSU, our state, and our nation! --R.C.C.

Condolence: Marilyn, Ruth, John & Martha,

We were so saddened to hear of Warren's passing and am sorry we will not be at services as we are out of town. We will miss him. Warren was more than just an employer--he was my friend and mentor starting as an undergraduate. Below is a sentiment which has always comforted me in trying times. I hope you will find solace in it.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I am following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard his call
I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship showed, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with time of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life’s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now he set me free

Condolence: I did not know Warren well until I served with him on a committee which spent nine months evaluating the University curriculum, which he chaired. That experience caused me to have great appreciation for his leadership. Please know that HelenSue and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condolence From: Dorris Bishop Rodgers
Condolence: I was heartbroken to learn of the death of Dr. Thompson. I was his first secretary when he moved to Starkville and became the Director of the Forest Utilization Lab and always kidded him that I had seniority because I got to work before him the first day we both started. He was a wonderful boss and a man I truly respected. To his family I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers as you travel this tough road.
