Ben Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2017. He was a long time resident of Starkville, Mississippi and a retiree from Mississippi State University. Ben was born in Starkville Mississippi on February 4, 1928 to Claudie and Florence Smith.

He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1947. Ben loved all Mississippi State sports, especially baseball.

Ben is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Ruth Smith & his son Bill Smith.

He is survived by his daughters Karla Vendegna and Sheila Thomson; sons Mike Smith, and Tony Smith, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS. The graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Maben. Rev. Thad Moore will conduct the service.
