Obituary for C. Hunter Andrews

C. Hunter  Andrews
C. Hunter Andrews, 83, died, Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Starkville, Mississippi. He was born in 1932 in Starkville, to Wade Hampton Andrews, Sr. and Cecile Davis Andrews.

He was a 1950 graduate of Starkville High School. He was a 1954 graduate of Mississippi State University with a BS in Agronomy and received his Master’s degree in Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State in 1958 and his Doctoral degree in 1966. He worked extensively with U.S. AID in South America, Africa and Asia.

He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 and a 1954 graduate of The Artillery School, Antiaircraft and Guided Missiles Branch, United States Army.

He was a faculty member in Agronomy Mississippi State University from 1958 – 1995, and a President’s Partner member of the President’s Club at the university. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the National Geographic Society since 1960.

He was a member of the American Society of Agronomy for 56 years, Crop Science Society of America / Soil Science Society of America for 43 years. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Pittman Andrews, his brother Wade Hampton Andrews, Jr., and his sister Merrell Davis Wax.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 9, 2016 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Starkville.

Survivors include his daughter Elizabeth Frese (Erich) of Gothenburg, Sweden, son, Eliot Andrews (Rick Hubbard) of Birmingham, Alabama, and son, William Andrews (Stacie) of New Orleans, Louisiana and granddaughters Jane and Jill Andrews of New Orleans.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ann Pittman Andrews Memorial Scholarship Fund, MSU Foundation, P.O. Box 6149, MS State, MS 39762.
