Obituary for Charles Eugene "Gene" Fulgham

Charles Eugene "Gene" Fulgham
Charles Eugene “Gene” Fulgham went to be with his Lord on March 5, 2016, surrounded by his five daughters. He was born on
October 23,1929 in Choctaw County, MS to Willie and Lena Fulgham.

The visitation services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary in Starkville. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Park.

Gene began work in the retail furniture business shortly after moving to Starkville in
1949, eventually establishing his own furniture store in 1978. He was well-known
in the community, unfailingly welcoming to all. In the late 1980's he
opened Fulgham’s Personal Care Home with his wife, Geraldine, where they served many area families until retiring in the late 1990’s. During retirement, he enjoyed his family, friends, fishing, and his church, First Baptist of Starkville, where he had been a long-time member. He enjoyed nothing more than filling a truck with watermelons to share with friends and neighbors.

Following the death of Geraldine in 2011 after 63 years of marriage, he moved to
Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo.

He is survived by his daughters: Wilda Morris (Danny) of Starkville, Janis Montfort (Frank) of Houston,TX, Pat Wesson (Malcolm) of Tupelo , Cathy Chandler of Mathiston, and Martha Kegley (Russell) of Fort Worth, TX; brother John M. Fulgham; and sisters Bertie Harpole and Betty O’Brien; grandchildren, Barry Morris of Starkville, Andy Morris of Bryant, Arkansas, Lindsay Montfort Oman of Houston, Texas, Jennifer Wesson Strunk of Olive Branch, Julia Wesson Dykes of Amory, Jared Wesson of Memphis, TN, Chris Chandler of Mantee, and Bradley Chandler of Meridian; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine, his parents, his sister Margie
Fulgham, and brother Bob Fulgham.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church “Children’s Fund” or the General Funds for First Baptist Church, 106 East Lampkin Street, Starkville, MS 39759
